Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th in 2000) is an American performer and actress. Her career spans over 40 years. London is a torch singer well-known for her smooth, pleasant vocals and smooth contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955-1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River" that she first performed on her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her character as Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her acting career. London's 35-year acting career started on film in 1944 which included roles for female leads in many westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the beginning of her professional music career. Her final studio album was released in 1969. She maintained her popularity as the female lead in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), she starred alongside her husband Bobby Troup. The show was created by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
