Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips which include commentary on gender representations in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in popular culture. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. In addition, she works to raise awareness about online harassment targeted at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Alongside being an acclaimed public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender identities and feminisms from an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the university. As of 2009, this determined young woman was slammed by the Internet for starting a web featuring a series about gender and videogames. The woman was not stopped by the assault, the fact is that it only bolstered her determination to be an expert on media and feminism. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminist were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit focused on the portrayal of women within pop culture and the narratives that surround them.
